Toi et Moi, a self-catering guest house, is located in the picturesque town of Parys (already called the “The Pride of the Vaal” back in 1905) on the Vaal River, in the Northern Free State (a mere 120 km from Johannesburg). Flowing for over 1400 km, the Vaal River is the largest tributary of the Orange River and the third largest river in South Africa. Truly a majestic spectacle to behold, the Vaal also offers a myriad of activities which we will touch upon a little later.

Where art and culinary delights abound – Just like in Paris
Parys is renowned as an art and antique hub which is why many well-known artists have chosen to make the town their home. The best way to experience the art galleries, craft, and gift shops that Parys is famous for, is to take a stroll, hand in hand, down Breë and Water Street. You will also be spoiled for choice when it comes to culinary delights with 18 restaurants offering everything from local, traditional delights to scrumptious fine dining. Coffee shops and street cafés abound and are sometimes hidden in bookstores, one even on a bus. Another hidden gem is the Venterskroon Inn (formerly known as the “Old Imperial” which was built between 1860 and 1924. The Pub and restaurant provide scrumptious meals while kids can enjoy the pool and friendly Venterskroon Ponies.
On the first Saturday of every month, you can enjoy an eclectic visit to the Hartelus Mark which has everything from gourmet takeaways, preserves, and biltong to home décor items, jewelry, leather products, and even handmade knives. It’s certainly the place to shop till you drop. For another interesting excursion take in the exhibitions, entertainment, and equestrian and livestock shows at the Afridome Showground’s indoor arena.
